Commercial Tropical Forestry Plots - Agarwood
Agarwood, eaglewood, gaharu, aloeswood and “Wood of the Gods” - these are just a few of the names for the resinous, fragrant highly valuable heartwood produced by aquilaria malaccensis.
The trees are large evergreens native to South East Asia. Agarwood Aquilaria tree) is native to southeast Asia. The Agar tree produces a dark aromatic resin in response to infection. It is commonly called Oud and is valued in many cultures for its distinctive fragrance. Oud oil distilled from Agarwood can cost from $20 to $7,000/kg. The value of Agarwood exported from Singapore has been estimated to exceed $1.2 billion per annum.
Commercial uses: Medicinal, incense and perfumes.
If Agarwood is grown from saplings it is now possible to harvest in six years, making this tree commercially viable for short term investment. However, by buying established trees you shorten the time it takes for your investment to reach maturity. The tables below reflect the actual results from original, historically-based data.
